“After moving to Vermont, I started taking classes with Gaby Goldberg, who embraced and empowered Buddha-shaped bodies as fierce yoga bodies. Gaby wasn’t afraid of bodies; she talked about how to adapt practice, how to make yoga your own. She made space for practice to look different for all people. My fat strong body was an asset to be acknowledged, not a burden to be dealt with or worked around. My legs like trees grounded me, my shoulders and back opened and stretched, allowing refreshing perspective and air to flow into my heart, lungs and belly. Gaby gave others permission, or maybe she helped us give ourselves permission to develop a practice that worked for us.”
